The Record High of January 2026

Gold started 2026 near US$4,350 per ounce and climbed fast. It closed above US$4,500 on 12 January and above US$5,000 for the first time on 26 January.

The peak came three days later, on 29 January, at US$5,405 per ounce. In dirhams that is about AED 638 per gram for 24K and AED 585 for 22K, the highest gold rate ever recorded in the UAE at world prices.

The highest LBMA gold price on record is US$5,405.00 per ounce, set on 29 January 2026, which equals AED 638.19 per gram for 24K and AED 585.03 for 22K. Today's 24K price of AED 505.97 is 20.7% below that peak.

Why Did the Gold Price Fall After January?

After the record, gold spent five months moving lower. By 16 July the LBMA price had dropped to US$3,993.55, about 26% below the January peak and back under US$4,000.

Falls of this size often follow very fast rises, as some investors sell to lock in gains. The price then recovered part of the loss, and by late September it was around 7% above the July low.

For UAE buyers, the fall was an opening. A 22K gram that cost about AED 585 at the January peak was below AED 440 at the July low at world prices.

How Does the 2026 Quarter Compare?

PeriodAverage 24K (AED per gram)Trend
January to MarchAED 575.36Record high on 29 January, slight fall in March
April to JuneAED 532.07Steady decline, largest monthly drop in June
July to SeptemberAED 503.83Low on 16 July, rebound in August

Even after the correction, 2026 prices remain well above 2025. The year to date average is about a third higher than the 2025 average.

What Should Buyers Take From 2026 So Far?

The year shows that gold can fall as quickly as it rises. Anyone who bought at the January peak was still sitting on a paper loss in September, while buyers in July paid much less for the same weight.

If you buy gold regularly, spreading purchases across the year helps avoid buying everything at a peak. Check the gold rate in Dubai today against the monthly averages above before a large purchase.

What Did 10 Grams of Gold Cost at Each Turning Point in 2026?

For buyers who think in 10 gram pieces, the table turns the year’s key dates into a simple bill at world prices, before making charges and VAT.

Date10 grams of 22K10 grams of 24K
2 January, first trading dayAED 4,712AED 5,140
29 January, record highAED 5,850AED 6,382
16 July, low of the yearAED 4,323AED 4,715
25 September, latest LBMA priceAED 4,612AED 5,031
