How Did the Gold Price in Dubai Move Through 2025?

The year divides neatly into four quarters, and each one set a new level for dirham prices.

QuarterAverage 24K (AED per gram)What happened
January to MarchAED 337.65Gold crossed US$3,000 per ounce for the first time on 18 March
April to JuneAED 387.32April alone rose 7.5% as prices pushed higher
July to SeptemberAED 408.13A pause in July, then a jump in September past US$3,500
October to DecemberAED 488.26Gold crossed US$4,000 on 8 October and set the year’s high on 23 December

From the first trading day to the last, the world price rose about 65%. The yearly average, which smooths out the daily swings, was about 44% above 2024.

What Did High Prices Mean for UAE Gold Buyers?

Higher prices did not stop buying, but they changed what people bought. According to the World Gold Council, UAE jewellery demand fell 15% in 2025 to 29.4 tonnes, down from 34.7 tonnes in 2024.

Shoppers moved to lighter pieces, and more of them bought coins and small bars instead of heavy jewellery. Investment gold of at least 99% purity is zero rated for VAT, while jewellery carries 5%, which made bars more attractive as prices rose.

Making charges became a bigger topic too. When the gold itself costs more, many buyers push harder on labour costs, and our guide to gold making charges in the UAE explains what is fair.

Was 2025 a Good Year to Buy Gold in Dubai?

Looking back, anyone who bought early in 2025 saw strong gains by the end of the year. January’s average 24K price was about AED 320 per gram, against more than AED 500 in December.

That hindsight is easy, though. At the time, each new record raised the same worry that prices were too high, and the sharp fall in the middle of 2026 shows that gold can drop quickly as well as rise.
