Gold Rate Data: Methodology and Accuracy
This page explains how GoldRateUAE.live calculates and updates the gold prices shown across this site. Transparency about our data sources and methodology is essential for buyers, investors, and researchers who rely on accurate gold rate information.
Primary Data Source
The UAE gold rates on this site are derived from the international spot gold price (XAU/USD): the globally traded price of one troy ounce of pure gold in US dollars, published continuously by the international bullion markets. The spot price is then converted to local currencies (AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, BHD) using live mid-market exchange rates.
For the UAE retail benchmark specifically, we reference the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) daily rate, the same benchmark published by the DGJG and used by licensed jewellers across the UAE as the standard base rate for retail gold pricing. This benchmark is updated each trading day and is the reference rate displayed in jewellery store windows across Dubai Gold Souk, Meena Bazaar, and UAE shopping malls.
International Benchmarks Referenced
- LBMA Gold Price: The London Bullion Market Association publishes the twice-daily gold fix (AM and PM) used as the global settlement benchmark for gold contracts. Our rates are benchmarked against LBMA pricing for accuracy.
- World Gold Council: We reference the World Gold Council gold price data and demand reports for long-term trend context and global gold market analysis.
- Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG): The DGJG publishes the UAE retail benchmark rate used by all licensed jewellers. Our UAE rate aligns with this benchmark.
- Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX): The DGCX is the UAE’s regulated derivatives exchange for gold futures, providing additional market depth reference.
How Karat Prices Are Calculated
Each karat price is derived from the 24K (pure gold) rate using the gold purity percentage:
- 24K (99.9% pure), base rate
- 22K (91.6% pure), 24K rate × 0.916
- 21K (87.5% pure), 24K rate × 0.875
- 20K (83.3% pure), 24K rate × 0.833
- 18K (75.0% pure), 24K rate × 0.750
The AED rate is calculated from XAU/USD using the fixed USD/AED peg of 3.6725, which has been the UAE Central Bank’s official peg since 1997. GCC currencies (SAR, QAR, BHD) use their respective pegged or managed exchange rates. KWD and OMR use live mid-market rates.
Update Frequency
Gold prices on this site are updated automatically throughout the trading day. The London market (LBMA) is the primary driver of international gold prices, peak trading hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM London time (12:00 PM to 9:00 PM UAE time). During these hours, prices may update multiple times. Outside active trading hours, rates reflect the most recent available market price.
Every price display on this site shows a timestamp of the last update so buyers can verify the recency of the rate before making a purchase decision.
What This Rate Is: and Is Not
The gold rate shown on this site is the base metal price per gram: the raw value of the gold content only. It is not the final price you pay at a jewellery counter. The final retail price of a jewellery item in the UAE includes:
- Making charges: labour and design cost per gram, set by each retailer (typically AED 3 to 25 per gram)
- Design or workmanship premium: for branded or intricate jewellery
- Stone or gemstone cost: if applicable
- 5% UAE VAT: on jewellery (investment gold may be zero-rated)
- Retailer margin: varies by store and brand
Use the gold price calculator to estimate the full cost including making charges and VAT before visiting any shop.
UAE Hallmarking Standards
All gold sold in the UAE must carry a hallmark indicating purity under UAE federal standards. The hallmark system is overseen by UAE authorities and the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA). Licensed jewellers display their prices and product purity in line with these standards. Always request a detailed invoice showing the gold weight, karat, making charge breakdown, and VAT amount separately.
Accuracy & Disclaimer
While we work to ensure all rates are accurate and up to date, gold prices are volatile and can change rapidly. There may be a short delay between market movements and the rate displayed on this site. Always verify the current price directly with a licensed jeweller or bullion dealer before making a purchase or investment decision.
