How Is the Gold Price in Dubai Set Each Day?
The Dubai gold price follows the international spot price of gold (XAU/USD), converted into dirhams at the fixed rate of 3.6725 AED per US dollar and divided by 31.1035 grams per troy ounce. Lower karats are priced by purity, so 22K carries 91.6% of the 24K value.
Dubai jewellers also follow a retail board rate published by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) several times a day, usually in the morning, afternoon and evening. That board rate includes a dealer margin, so it normally sits a little above the pure spot value.
The figures on this page show the world market value of the metal, so expect the shop board in Deira to read roughly 2 to 3% higher.
Our gold rate methodology explains the data source, the update schedule and how each karat is calculated.
What Will You Actually Pay for 22K Jewellery in Dubai?
Your bill has three parts: the gold value, the making charge and VAT. Multiply the weight in grams by the live per gram rate, add the making charge for that piece, then add 5% VAT on the total.
Making charges are set by each store, not by the market. Plain machine made chains in the souk can start from a few dirhams per gram, while handcrafted bridal sets at branded showrooms can cost AED 25 per gram or more.
| Cost item | What it covers | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| Gold value | Weight in grams × live rate per gram | Karat and market price |
| Making charge | Labour and workmanship | Store, design, machine or handmade |
| Stones or enamel | Diamonds, gems, enamel work | Stone type and weight |
| VAT | 5% on jewellery | Fixed by UAE law |
A worked example: a 10 gram 22K chain at an illustrative rate of AED 470 per gram, with a making charge of AED 10 per gram, comes to AED 4,800 before tax and AED 5,040 after 5% VAT. Run your own numbers with the gold price calculator for Dubai, and read how stores set their fees in our guide to making charges in the UAE.
Which Karat Should You Buy: 24K, 22K, 21K or 18K?
Choose 22K for everyday jewellery, 24K for bars and coins, and 18K for diamond settings. The right karat depends on how you will use the piece, because higher purity means softer metal.
| Karat | Fineness | Gold content | Common use in the UAE |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K | 999.9 | 99.9% | Bars, coins, investment |
| 22K | 916 | 91.6% | Most jewellery in Dubai |
| 21K | 875 | 87.5% | Traditional Arabic and bridal designs |
| 18K | 750 | 75.0% | Diamond and designer pieces |
Every gold item sold in Dubai must carry a hallmark stamp showing its purity. In Dubai, hallmarking is handled by the Dubai Central Laboratory of Dubai Municipality, and national standards sit with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. Read our guide to UAE gold hallmarks and the full 22K vs 24K comparison. For live prices by weight, see the 22K gold rate in UAE and the 24K gold rate in UAE.
What Should You Check Before You Pay for Gold?
Check five things at the counter before you pay. They take two minutes and protect you from the most common overcharges.
- Purity: find the hallmark stamp (999, 916, 875 or 750) on the piece itself.
- Weight: watch the piece being weighed and note the grams on the invoice.
- Rate: compare the shop’s per gram rate with the live table on this page.
- Making charge: ask for it per gram, and ask whether the piece is machine made or handmade.
- Invoice: get an itemised bill showing weight, karat, making charge and VAT.
Is the Gold Rate the Same in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman?
Yes, the base gold rate is the same across all seven emirates because every jeweller starts from the same international price. The difference you see between cities comes from making charges and shop overheads.
Shoppers often find lower making charges at Souq Al Dhahab in Sharjah and at the Ajman gold market than in Dubai malls. Compare today’s prices for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain, or see the gold rate across the UAE.
Where Can You Buy Gold in Dubai?
The main places are Dubai Gold Souk in Deira, Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai, Gold and Diamond Park on Sheikh Zayed Road, and branded showrooms in malls such as Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Each one suits a different kind of buyer.
Dubai Gold Souk sits on Sikkat Al Khail Street in Deira, a short walk from Al Ras Metro Station on the Green Line. Hundreds of retailers trade there, and bargaining on the making charge is normal.
Meena Bazaar, around Al Fahidi Street, is popular with Indian and Pakistani families for South Asian designs. Mall showrooms of chains such as Malabar Gold and Joyalukkas quote fixed charges, so check today’s Malabar gold rate and Joyalukkas gold rate before you go. Our Gold Souk vs Meena Bazaar vs malls guide compares all three.
Do You Pay VAT on Gold Bars and Coins in the UAE?
Investment gold of at least 99% purity is zero rated for VAT in the UAE, while jewellery carries the standard 5%. That rule makes 24K bars and coins cheaper to buy than jewellery of the same weight.
The Ten Tola bar, known locally as the TT bar, weighs 116.64 grams and is one of the most traded bar sizes in Dubai. Most of the city’s bullion trade runs through the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), which sets the UAE Good Delivery standard for bars. See where to buy gold bars in Dubai and gold bars vs coins before you buy.
How Much Will You Get When You Sell Gold in Dubai?
Buyers in Dubai pay for the gold content only, so you will receive less than the live rate for jewellery. Shops deduct for stones and enamel, test the purity, and usually quote a few dirhams per gram below the day’s rate.
Making charges are not refunded when you sell. Compare at least two offers in the Gold Souk before you accept, and read our guide on how to sell gold in Dubai.
Can Tourists Get VAT Back on Gold Bought in Dubai?
Yes. Visitors aged 18 or over can claim back 87% of the VAT paid on jewellery through the Tourist Refund Scheme run by the Federal Tax Authority, minus a fixed fee of AED 3.60 per claim.
You must spend at least AED 250 at one participating store, get a Tax Free tag against your passport, and take the goods out of the UAE within 90 days. UAE residents cannot claim. Our step by step guide explains how to claim the VAT refund at Dubai airport.
How Much Gold Can You Carry from Dubai to India or Pakistan?
Under India’s Baggage Rules 2026, in force since 2 February 2026, a woman can bring 40 grams of gold jewellery duty free and a man 20 grams, if the traveller has lived abroad for more than one year. The limit is now set by weight, not by value.
Customs duty is charged on any excess at the rate in force when you land, so check the CBIC website before you fly and keep your itemised invoice. Convert the Dubai price with our AED to INR gold rate page, read the Dubai to India gold limit guide, or see the AED to PKR gold rate and the Dubai to Pakistan rules.
When Does the Dubai Gold Price Move the Most?
The price moves most while London and New York are trading, which is roughly from late morning until late evening UAE time. London’s trading day, where the LBMA gold price is set, runs from 11:00 to 20:00 Gulf Standard Time in summer and from 12:00 to 21:00 in winter.
Demand also follows the calendar. Buying peaks around the Dubai Shopping Festival, Eid, the autumn wedding season, and Indian festivals such as Dhanteras, Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya.
High prices change how people buy. According to the World Gold Council, UAE jewellery demand fell 15% in 2025 to 29.4 tonnes, down from 34.7 tonnes in 2024, as shoppers moved to lighter pieces, coins and bars. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the gold rate in Dubai today?
The live table at the top of this page shows today’s price for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold in AED per gram. The 22K figure is the one most jewellery buyers use. It is the base metal price before making charges and VAT.
Why is the price in the shop higher than this page?
Shops add a making charge for each piece and 5% VAT on jewellery. The retail board rate in Dubai also includes a small dealer margin above the spot value of the metal.
Does the gold rate include making charges?
No. The rate covers the metal only, and each store sets its own making charge per gram or per piece. Always ask for the making charge in writing before you agree to a price.
Is there VAT on gold in Dubai?
Yes, gold jewellery in the UAE carries 5% VAT on the gold value and the making charge. Investment gold bars and coins of at least 99% purity are zero rated, so they carry no VAT.
How many grams are in one tola of gold?
One tola equals 11.6638 grams. The live table shows the tola price in AED next to the per gram and per 10 gram prices, so you do not need to convert it yourself.
Is gold cheaper in Dubai than in India?
Dubai gold is usually cheaper because India adds customs duty and 3% GST to gold, while UAE jewellery carries 5% VAT and investment gold is zero rated. Making charges and India’s customs rules still decide your real saving, so compare the full cost with our UAE vs India gold price guide.
How do I know Dubai gold is genuine?
Check for the hallmark stamp that shows the karat, and ask for an itemised invoice listing weight, karat, making charge and VAT. Licensed shops in Dubai Gold Souk and branded showrooms provide this as standard.
Is the gold rate different in each emirate?
No. The base rate is the same across the UAE, and only the making charges and store pricing differ between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates.
How often does this page update?
Prices refresh automatically through the trading day as the international gold price and exchange rate change. The time of the last update is shown inside the live table.
