GoldRateUAE explains how much gold you can bring from Dubai to Bangladesh, for the many Bangladeshi workers and families in the UAE who buy gold before going home. The live table above shows today’s Dubai price per gram, which is the starting point for every piece you buy.

Bangladesh tightened its rules in 2025. The duty free allowance now applies only once a year, and the duty on gold bars went up, and the details below reflect the current rules.

What Are the Duty Free Gold Limits for Bangladesh?

The rules apply to non tourist passengers, which covers Bangladeshi workers and residents returning from abroad. The main limits are summarised below.

ItemLimitDuty
Gold jewellery, 22K or lessUp to 100 grams, once a yearDuty free
Pieces of the same typeNo more than 12Part of the jewellery rule
Gold barOne bar up to 10 tola (bhori), once a yearTk 5,000 per tola
Silver jewelleryUp to 200 gramsDuty free

One hundred grams is roughly eight and a half bhori of jewellery. The jewellery must be designed and wearable, which means finished ornaments rather than raw gold.

How Much Duty Do You Pay on a Gold Bar?

Since the 2025 rules, the duty on a gold bar is Tk 5,000 per tola, up from Tk 4,000 per bhori before. A full 10 tola bar therefore costs Tk 50,000 in duty, compared with Tk 40,000 under the old rules.

A tola, or bhori, is about 11.66 grams, so a 10 tola bar weighs about 116.64 grams. That is the same size as the Ten Tola bar sold widely in Dubai.

What Counts as Gold Jewellery Under the Rules?

The rules define jewellery as designed, wearable ornaments of 22K gold or less. Pieces of 24K, raw gold and gold in unfinished form are not treated as jewellery.

The limit of 12 pieces of the same type is meant to stop commercial quantities. Ten identical chains or a stack of identical bangles may be treated as goods for sale rather than personal jewellery.

How Do You Declare Gold at Dhaka Airport?

If you carry more than the duty free allowance, or any gold bar, declare it at customs on arrival, such as at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Keep the Dubai invoice ready, showing the weight and karat of each item.

Undeclared gold above the allowance can be seized and lead to penalties. Declaring and paying duty is always cheaper than losing the gold.

Is Gold Cheaper in Dubai Than in Bangladesh?

Gold prices in Bangladesh are set by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), based on the world price plus local costs. Dubai prices follow the world price closely, and jewellery carries 5% VAT in the UAE.

To compare, convert the Dubai price per gram into taka at the rate your bank or exchange house will really give you, then compare with the BAJUS rate on the same day. Include the making charge in both countries.

Buying Gold in Dubai for Bangladesh: Practical Tips

1. Stay within 100 grams of jewellery if you want everything duty free.

2. Buy 22K or 21K jewellery, since 24K pieces do not count as jewellery under the rules.

3. Avoid many identical pieces to stay clear of the same type limit.

4. Keep itemised invoices showing weight and karat for each piece.

5. Remember the once a year rule if you travel home more than once.

Can Tourists Get VAT Back on Gold Bought in Dubai?

Residents of the UAE cannot claim the tourist VAT refund. If you are visiting the UAE as a tourist, you can reclaim most of the 5% VAT on jewellery at the airport through the Tax Free scheme.

Common Mistakes Bangladeshi Travellers Make

1. Using the allowance twice in one year, which the 2025 rules no longer allow.

2. Carrying 24K jewellery, which does not count as jewellery under the rules.

3. Carrying gold for other passengers, which counts against your own limit.

4. Not declaring a gold bar on arrival at Dhaka.
